The Truth Behind Busenaz Sürmeneli’s Great Victory

National boxer Busenaz Sürmeneli, who made us proud and won the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, had a critical surgery in March and received his Olympic visa as a result of the quota competitions in early June. The national boxer, who suffered for a long time due to the injury in his hand, could not find a definitive solution even though he consulted many doctors. About 5 months ago, Busenaz Sürmeneli with the President of the Turkish Boxing Federation Eyüp Gözgeç and the National Team Trainer Cahit Süme visit Prof. Dr. Tahsin Beyzadeoğlu who is a very experienced name in sports injuries.

Beyzadeoğlu, who also served as the doctor of the Basketball National Team for a period before, said that the problem in the hands of the national boxer would be resolved with surgery. However, one day after this meeting, Beyzadeoğlu, who had to go to the USA to hold important meetings in the morning. He stated that the surgery could be performed a week later at the earliest. This option was too late for the national boxer. Believing that his athlete will return from Tokyo with a medal, Federation President Gözgeç stated that there were quota competitions at the beginning of June, and that even one day is important, he insisted on surgery immediately. The fact that this meeting takes place in the evening and Prof. Dr. Beyzadeoğlu’s early flight to the USA made it difficult, a solution was found.

It was as if a mobilization was declared, and the hospital was quickly prepared. The surgical team was formed and Busenaz went to the hospital at 04.00 at night with president Gözgeç and her trainer Süme, who did not leave his side for a moment, and was operated in the first hours of the morning. Everything went as planned, with a successful operation, Busenaz got rid of the hand pain that bothered him a lot, while Beyzadeoğlu caught his plane and flew to the USA for his program.

Only 2.5 months after his surgery, Busenaz came out with a clear forehead from the quota competitions, then he played our National Anthem in Tokyo and had our star and crescent flag hoisted.
